Patron Deli & Wine Bar, Kentish Town

I've made no secret of how much I love Patron in Kentish Town. In fact, I tell pretty much everyone I meet to pay them a visit. And you should, because they're delightfully fantastic (I even wrote a blog post on them back in May should you feel like giving them an internet nosey first).

So I was thrilled to hear the news that they'd opened up a new deli and wine bar just a hop and a skip down Fortress road from their original restaurant.

Being the ever so inquisitive foodie I am, naturally I had to pay them a visit. And so, one delightfully lazy Sunday evening, I made my way to Kentish Town with my good friend Lauren, promising her an evening of red wine and cheese.

How could one say no to that?

The Patron family's latest addition is, as I expected, as charming as the restaurant. Not overly big, with a scattering of tables suitable for cosy couples at the back and communal tables for groups towards the front. Decor is chic, rustic and homely, like someone's living room has been converted into a wine bar.

Which I'm sure many people will think is a suitable idea for their home...

We nestled into our table and poured ourselves over the wine list.

Eyeing up the meats and cheeses on display in the counter whilst our cheese fondue was lovingly being made.

Then without further adieu, the main star of the evening arrived.

Piping hot, melted cheese fondue.

Served with a basket of bread for dunking and a plate of charcuterie for added extra Sunday night bliss.

Washed down sublimely with a glass (or two... OK, ok, three) of Le Secret de Remi 2013, a very reasonably priced and de-e-licious red.

It was all such pure perfection.

^ the final shot of the night as we chatted away and stuffed our faces simultaneously.

We felt a slight pang of shame as we made it through a second bread basket to finish the ENTIRE fondue but then realised if that isn't a great big seal of approval then we don't know what it is?

Patron, as ever you were sublime and it was a privilege to have been invited to visit.

Fondue lovers, wine lovers, French lovers (who isn't all three, really?) you simply must visit Patron's new baby.

Psst... if you're planning on stocking up on cheese this Christmas, make sure you give the deli a visit on the 22nd! The guys will be giving each visitor a free glass of mulled wine and 10% off  your shop. There'll be pre-made hampers, truffle produce, heavenly cheese and fine wines to get your hands on. Sounds pretty much like the perfect Christmas table, non?
