Dirty Bones, Shoreditch
Nothing sets you up for the day quite like a good breakfast, especially one that feeds both your belly and your eyes.
My first day back in London after the New Year was a steady one, easing me gently back into reality. Emails were already bubbling under but instead of getting swamped straight away, I chose to meet Amber for a spot of 2017 goal planning and some serious interior swooning over brunch.
Dirty Bones has been around for what seems like forever now, originally starting back in 2013 in High Street Kensington before opening a second house of bones in Carnaby's Kingly Court two years later. For 2017, the bones team are back with their latest opening in Shoreditch set within the most gloriously beautiful grade II listed building.
As with the other houses, the menu continues along the lines of New York inspired comfort food and drink. When we finally managed to take our eyes off the restaurant's interiors (which believe me, is a tough job to do!), we ordered a latte and mint tea before getting to ordering from the menu.
My choice was the Beetroot-cured Salmon served on sourdough with pickled beetroot and homemade goat's cream cheese. Light, fresh and utterly delicious, it was a fantastic first breakfast dish of 2017. Amber opted for the Avocado Crumpet made up of goats' cheese, avocado, garlic guacamole and sriracha on a toasted crumpet topped with egg and oozing hollandaise. Thanks to the insistence of our waiter, we also chose to share the Cheesy Chipotle Beans and were pleased as punch we followed orders. These are an absolute must, so get them! Finally, one not to be overlooked (and perhaps my favourite of them all) was the Bourbon Poached Pear & Banola - a simply divine oat & flaxseed granola surrounding thick Greek yogurt with roast banana purée and finished with a Bourbon poached pear and honey. Simply. Heaven. And not at all overpoweringly sweet making it a January detox-approved brunching option.
Dirty Bones Shoreditch should definitely be on your hit list - for food, for interiors and basically, for all the right reasons! I'll certainly be back for some banola and a swoon. Meet me on the velvet sofas?
