4 PLACES TO EAT & DRINK IN MARRAKECH

If you've been to Marrakech before then you'll already know it's an overload of the senses.

From sights and sounds to smell, everything about Marrakech totally grabs you. It can be a minefield alone getting through the souks, so figuring out where best to eat and drink - in a place where it probably could go very, very wrong - is a hassle you most likely can do without.

We only visited Marrakech for a short amount of time so didn't get round to sampling all the restaurant delights - and believe me, there are so many gems in Marrakech - but here are a few that every traveller to Marrakech should make time for.

For a pot of Moroccan mint tea and a gaze down into Rahba Lakdima Spice Square (places des épices), there's really no better a spot than Café des Épices.

Open from breakfast through dinner, this place is a pretty well known spot thanks to a combination of smack-in-the-middle-of-everything location, good food & drink and traditional but somehow so very 'in' interiors. Split over 3 floors, you'll be so tempted to sit on each but in summer time, you can't beat the roof terrace - and there are plenty of sun hats to keep you from burning so no excuses.

I'd really recommend a visit early morning whilst the market stalls below are still setting up - you get to see Marrakech at its most peaceful whilst basking in the perfect temperature.

On the other side of the square where Café des Épices is, you'll find Nomad.

What was once an old carpet store is now a chic restaurant over four floors with two levels of terraces which are a must bag, offering fantastic views over the Medina and beyond.

There's a strong emphasis on fresh produce and modern Moroccan cuisine - taking traditional local dishes and giving them a twist.

You'll need to book but thankfully in Marrakech, reserving isn't a thing of the past!

We didn't eat here, so I can't pass a comment on the food but we did visit for drinks at sunset and I can wholeheartedly recommend you do the same.

El Fenn is one of those blink and you'll miss it hotels that, from the outside, look like absolutely nothing. Once inside however, that all changes. Lovers of Moroccan design and interiors will be in heaven - you'll be wishing you were a guest here just so you never had to leave the property. Make your way through the labyrinth, up to the rooftop for the most chilled spot in all of Marrakech. Get comfy on the sofas, order a few drinks, watch as the sun dips its head and the moon takes its place.

A place I would come back to time and time again.

One of the most highly rated hotels in Marrakech, La Maison Arabe is a hotel that keeps traditional and history alive. Established over 60 years ago, it's seen the likes of Winston Churchill and Jackie Kennedy through its doors.

For a truly special evening, book yourself a table at Les Trois Saveurs.

Les Trois Saveurs is set within the hotel's beautiful courtyard, with tables surrounding the lantern-lit pool and live Arab-Andalucian music playing in the background. Service is attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate, and the food is delicious. Order one of their traditional tagines and a glass of wine and you won't go wrong.

The hotel also offers a very popular cooking workshop - should you wish to get hands-on with Moroccan food. Link to more info here
