Tuyo, Broadway Market

If I've not mentioned it before, now is a good a time as any: Broadway Market is my favourite food market to stroll around. There's such a sense of community in the area, the food stalls all offer a selection of amazing nibbles & treats and you're spoilt for choice when it comes to cafes, pubs, boutique shops and places to hang out. Living quite close to London Fields, it's somewhere where I spend a lot of Saturday mornings, visually eating my way around the stalls.

Until recently, Saturday mornings were the only time I would ever visit Broadway Market - thinking that was the best and only time to visit. But once the madness of the market stalls clear out, the street is home to some delicious spots just waiting to feed you up. Case in point, my latest discovery (and still fairly new to the restaurant scene), Tuyo.

THE VENUE:

Tuyo (which translates from Spanish as 'yours') opened in the summer of this year. The restaurant itself takes up a cute little spot alongside Regent's Canal, just up from Broadway Market. The menu offers up Mediterranean small plates with a Spanish twist and I'll tell you this now - it was one of my favourite meals of 2017! Everything that appeared in front of our eyes was truly delicious and if there's anywhere that belongs on your restaurant visit list for 2018 (don't we all have one of these?!) it's Tuyo. So promise me, next time you're in the area you'll go?

Nika and I went for lunch on a Tuesday sometime before the mad storm of Christmas took over and it was a relatively quiet affair (a complete contradiction to how I've seen it look at the weekend). We settled in to the corner of the restaurant with views over the canal and poured ourselves over the menu - ordering as much as we possibly could - before having the most non-stop catch up of catch-ups! (psst. if you're interested in beautiful leather goods then Nika is your girl - she's the incredible girlboss behind Paradise Row who you really must check out!)

Tuyo's interiors are simple and pretty with pops of colour lifting the place up, huge windows letting in the light and hanging baskets filled with lush greenery to help transport you to the Med (if you close your eyes and wrap up real warm, maybe). Weather permitting, you can also sit outside and enjoy a side of people watching with your food.

WHAT WE ATE:

To share: Picos Blue & Date Croquetas (cumin ali-oil and roasted walnuts) - Bellota Burger (pequillo kethcup, agri-dolce onion, tzatziki and manchego) - Octopus (pepperonata with hummus and cumin yogurt) - Spiced Lamb Tagine (roasted sweet potatoes, Greek yogurt, marsala apricots and prunes) - Parrilla Chorizo (served with baba ganoush and tuyo seeds) - Halloumi  (levantine peppers, compressed pickled cucumber, chilli mayo, roasted pistachios) -  Butternut Squash (Harissa roasted squash, olives & peppers tapenade, almond dressing & mint).

To finish: Tuyo Baklava (caramelised mixed nuts, almond pastry, mint yoghurt, fresh mango)
